About Us
The Charity was established by the Will of Michael Yoakley, a local Quaker and businessman, who died in 1708, to make provision for the “deserving poor” of the area – a generous and apt response to the needs of those he saw struggle in their later life without the present benefits of welfare and health care provision. For over 300 years, successive generations of dedicated and forward thinking Trustees have, with diligent stewardship, strived to provide the best care possible, adding to the services as appropriate in the interests of those served. The Charity’s Business Plan outlines clearly the objectives to which the Trustees work and planned developments for the future. The Charity continues to be administered within the Quaker ethos, maintaining an active Christian outlook.
Our staff are trained to the highest levels and in 2008 we opened out own state of the art training annexe to ensure that not only our own staff but also those from other local bodies can continue to hone and improve their skills. Job vacancies are available with the Charity from time to time in the care field, and occasionally in the area of buildings maintenance and gardening. We welcome application from anyone who would be interested in joining our dedicated and professional team.
Those interested in helping in a voluntary capacity may wish to consider joining the Charity’s League of Friends.
